Una storia portoghese, 1987.

Nel 1987 è stato pubblicato il mio primo libro, "Una storia portoghese". È nato dal ritorno, dopo undici anni, a Couço, il villaggio portoghese dove la domenica 31 agosto 1975 avevo fotografato una giornata di occupazione di terre, resa possibile dalla legge di Riforma agraria da poco varata. Determinante, per quel ritorno, fu il mio incontro con Antonio Tabucchi, che poi volle scrivere l'introduzione al libro. E il nuovo viaggio, che creò le basi per il libro, creò anche un rapporto molto forte e vivo con quelle persone e quei luoghi.

In 1987 my first book, "A Portuguese Story", was published. It was born from my return, after eleven years, to Couço, the Portuguese village where on Sunday 31 August 1975 I had photographed a day of land occupation, made possible by the recently passed Agrarian Reform law. My meeting with Antonio Tabucchi, who then wanted to write the introduction to the book, was crucial for that return. And the new journey, which created the basis for the book, also created a very strong and lively relationship with those people and those places.
